Off Week

So, it's an off week...what do we do during an off week??

Well...I'm going out of town. It'll be a nice escape from Tulsa for a couple of days, of course I will miss watching the Sooners on Saturday, it just doesn't feel like a Saturday when they have an off week. There are a lot of football games to watch, but nobody matches up to watching the Sooners.

Okay, so who do we root for this weekend?? UGH... the dreaded BCS probably doesn't put us in the Championship game this year unless some seriously strange stuff happens.

The BC vs VT game is on tonight, while I was hoping for a BC loss a couple of weeks ago, it doesn't really matter anymore. If VT wins, they will probably jump ahead of us in the BCS.

We need Ohio State to loss to Penn State (go LIONS!), Cal could be Arizona State, Oregon needs to lose at some point, but I don't really see that happening. I'm getting exhausted.

Seriously, we need a playoff in college football. I really like the Bowl games we have now, but a playoff is going to be the only way that it is completely fair, I hate to say it!

Scare in Ames

Okay, see if I say anything bad about any teams that we are playing ever again. Anytime I do, it has bad results.

We survived Iowa State in Ames on Saturday. That was a tough game to watch. I was very aggravated. We saved a touchdown in the end zone by intercepting the ball. It looked for a second like Wolfe had tipped the pass right into the ISU receivers hands. That was a scary moment.

Thankfully he didn't and we were able to pull out the win in the end.

We are still in the race for the BCS and if we continue to win, we could be in control. We still need some people to lose and I think that will happen.

LSU almost lost last night...but they didn't. I was sure they would lose that game, then Auburn handed the game to them with an onside kick ?? Strange call, they were up and just had to play some defense to get the clock to run out. Instead LSU recovers and after getting a little closer in the next couple of plays, they kick a field goal for the win. Thanks, Tommy! Preciate that!

I'm B-A-A-ACK!

Okay, boys and girls, I know it has been a LOOOONG time since I last posted, but.... I've been busy. Okay, I know you all know that's not true, I've actually just been lazy. So, I'm going to try to start posting on a semi-regular basis again. We'll see how that goes.

So much has happened since I last posted. I can't possibly cover it all! So, I'll sum-up. OU started off the football season awesome! We have a new red-shirt freshman quarterback Sam Bradford who has exceeded expectations. We were hangin' half a hundred on teams easily!

Then we went to Colorado. Ooops, I think we forgot about that altitude. We got beat. It was depressing, it was downright sad.

But, all is good in the college football world. Actually, all is very strange this year. One glance at the top 10 will tell you that. Everyone seems to be losing. Except Boston College, Hawaii, etc. Strange. So, we're still in it.

We came back swinging the next week at Texas and impressed again Saturday against Mizzou.

So, that's the "sum-up". This week we are headed to Ames, IA to play the powerhouse that is Iowa State.

Since South Florida got beat last night by Rutgers (I honestly never imagined myself saying that) (and further, I REALLY never imagined myself watching a USF Rutgers matchup on TV, but this is a different kind of season to say the least!) we should move up in the rankings. Boston College will go down next week to West Virginia (hopefully) which will help. And as bad as it hurts to say it, Michigan needs to beat Ohio State Nov 17th. Actually, I would rather the Nittany lions beat them next weekend, but that's probably a long shot. LSU can still stand to lose again too. They will have to play in the SEC Championship game. Who's going to beat them?? Not sure, but they need to get beat again.

Sympathy

Have you ever read a story or seen something on TV that just sticks with you? You know, a story that has such an impression on you that you just can't get it out of your mind??

That's how I feel about this story. I read it this morning and it's affected my whole day.

I only wish that I could do something for this kid. It's a sad story. It makes me sad that a kid with such a promising future could lose it all in a matter of one night, one mistake.

Then I think about a kid that had a chance to get a college education. Possibly an ivy league education and now he's mingling with muders and true criminals.

Very sad

More on AD

I read a really great article on AD and his impact on OU football and those that he plays with. I had to post it.

Video

Blogger has been sucking yesterday and this morning. I wasn't able to get this post out, and it wouldn't let me publish the youtube on the last post. So, here it is.

YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

Goodbye & Good Luck

Well, the decision has been made. I can't say that I'm surprised, but I'm sad. I will definitely miss watching AD on Saturdays. But, I know that he will be amazing on Sundays. I have never watched a running back like AD before, and I may never again. He is simply amazing. There is not much I can say about him, his abilities say it all. I know he has an amazing career ahead of him.

I'm not sure I did it right, but I tried to attach a youtube video of AD, it makes me kind of sad to watch it, because I know I won't ever watch him in a Sooner uniform again. But, I'm thrilled that I had the chance to watch him. The video is done by someone who believes he is going to be drafted by the Browns, which is possible. The other strong possibility is for him to go to Houston. What I can say is he will truly be missed in Norman.

Title IX

Well, I wasn't planning on posting today. There really isn't much to talk about in the world of OU sports. The girls b-ball game was cancelled due to weather, the boys lost in a game to Texas yesterday that they should have forfeited to send a message to Weiberg and we dropped a wrestling match yesterday to Cornell. Just to elaborate, Weiberg needs a message sent to him by Boren and Castiglione, he didn't side with us after the Oregan game when the whole world knew what happened, and now he suspended Longar after he even stated that he believed Longar did not intentionally elbow the Texas Tech player in the eye.

On to the actual post...Title IX. The NCAA is supposed to be ruling (they may have already, but I haven't seen anything further on it) on whether to continue to allow men to play against the womens basketball teams in practice. They believe that using men in practice rather than women, it takes the oppurtunity away from women to compete. I read a really good article last week written by Nancy Lieberman about why men should continue to help in womens practice. I wondered what Sherri Coale thought about all of this. Well, here's the answer. She wrote a great blog this morning about her views on the subject.

I think it's ridiculous to remove the men from the practice. It's not hurting anyone, it only helps develop our players so they can compete against the top in the game. This is one of those instances where things have been taken completely out of context.

Are you ready for some football??

Almost forgot... The spring practice dates were released today. The spring game is tenatively set for April 7th. So, I'll be busy that day, actually out of town! In Norman! YEAH!

Suspension

You may remember when I discussed the intentional foul Longar Longar received in the game against Texas Tech. Well it turns out that even though the Big 12 decided to put Longar on a two game suspension for this little elbow to the eye. What makes me a little crazy about this is that the Big 12 states in the same annoucement that they have reviewed the videotape and believe that Longar did not intentionally do this! Hello!! What's with this?? Castiglione issued a statement this afternoon acknowleding his disappointment with the decision.

What would be really great...if Capel decided to forfeit the next two games in a "statement" right back at the Big 12. That would get some OU fans on his side!! Might even pack some seats in LNC for their next game.

In other B-ball news, the girls game was cancelled due to inclement weather in the area.

David & I went to Compadre's for dinner tonight, yum, yum!! I can't believe how many people were out in the weather. Of course, I have to include myself in the crazies that risked the roads. Anyway, there is a point here... We saw on TV that the Hornets game was on... they were serving ice cones. Weird. I'd be surprised if anyone is even there!

AD still pondering...

AD is still undecided on his intentions to either enter the NFL draft or stay another year at OU. Last night ESPN and most local news stations reported that AD had decided to declare himself eligible for the draft. But...in a statment released by AD this afternoon, he denies this claim and said he is still undecided. I don't know if I can wait another day! It's agony!!

Rush & CP3

No, I'm not talking in Star Wars lingo. I'm talking Basketball. Women's Basketball. Hello, is anyone still there? I know, you guys don't like Basketball, much less Womens basketball. But come on. How could you not love to watch CP3? I mean she is awesome! There's no one like her! She got her 42nd double-double tonight. Not to mention she received a high honor today, National Player of the Month for December! She is the only player to ever receive this award three times in her career and she's only a sophmore. She is unbelieveable! Leah Rush had a great game tonight! She was grabbing rebounds left & right, what an effort from her! She was so physical. So, the sooners beat Baylor! Which is great! I hope we can beat them again at the end of the season.
In other B-Ball news, our boys played Colorado tonight. David & I clicked over to watch them every once in a while. It was really sad to flip over and see LNC looking like this:
It looked like it was a practice or something. Did they forget to open the doors?? I mean there was NOBODY there. Very odd to go from packed houses last year to this! They did play a good game. They were up by 21 points with 3 minutes left in the game.

So, all in all it was a good night for basketball in soonerland!

AAAAAHHHHHHH.........

It's never too early to start thinking about the next season of football! This picture makes me want to go to a game. Too bad I have to wait until September. Well, we do have the Spring game to look forward to.
I kind of feel sorry for all the other sports that are played at Oklahoma. While I enjoy watching basketball, baseball and softball games and hearing about our gymnastics teams and everything else we have going on, there is nothing like football at OU.

The polls are in...

And OU's final ranking in both the AP and Coaches polls is 11th! Poor Boise State, still no respect, 5th and 6th place is as high as they could get.

Speaking of College Football...who watched the National Championship game! Wow! What a game. I didn't really care which way that one went, but after the game, I realized I was glad it wasn't the Buckeyes. Imagine that! I did care.

Bigger and Better Things

Well, there you go, Kragthorpe is gone. What a shame. I'm really sad to see him go. Kragthorpe turned the idea of football in Tulsa completely around. Most of Tulsa thought you had to travel to Norman or (man it hurts to say this) Stillwater to see big time college football in the state, until Kragthorpe entered the picture. He changed the minds of many and turned Tulsa into a real competitor in Conference USA. His Golden Hurricane won the championship last year and was a definite contender this year.

So, he's off to coach the Cardinals. I wish him luck. I know he'll do a great job there. So, what's next for TU? My neighbor said today he heard Brent Venables is being talked about. That's the first that I've heard of that. What I really want to know is how can TU find a coach and keep the coach? Will they ever be able to keep a coach?? Their basketball coaches have notoriously kept the revolving door in motion, will this trickle over to the football program?

On to OU, the girls will play Baylor tomorrow night in Waco. They are looking for their 22nd straight conference win, Courtney will be contending for her 42nd straight double-double...what a streak that is!! And a win over a good Baylor team is always a good thing!

At roughly the same time tomorrow night (both games start around 7pm), our boys will be playing Colorado at home. Hopefully we can get another win under our belts. They need to gain a little confidence.

Trouble in T-Town?

TU finally finds a great coach who rallies them from a 1-21 record in two years. And he's swept away by a better offer.

Here's hoping TU can find another Steve Kragthorpe up its sleeve! I'll be sad to see him go.

Proud Sooners

Sooners are making us proud. Check this out.

Carl Pendleton is named 2006 Bobby Bowden Award winner. Carl is an extraordinary person, very selfless.

Showing exceptional class, check out this story about Jacob Gutierrez aka "Gute".

And, something that will probably not be talked about at all. Our Volleyball coach picked up his third Coach of the Year honor, that's right, THIRD!

It's a good day to be a sooner!

BB Saturday

Both our boys and our girls played games this afternoon, overlapping for a short time. It was hard to pick which one to watch. And let me give you all a shocker...David was not home to watch either game, he went...SHOPPING! Clown!

So, here's the run-down, our boys lost to Texas Tech this afternoon in Bobby Knights 881st win. Longar Longar got an intentional foul when he elbowed Esmir Rizvic. I've been trying to find a picture of this, but can't seem to find one. The guy had to go to the locker room, he had an ice pack to his head and everything. I'll see what I can do about a picture. So, the big question...What do we think about Jeff Capel, is he the right coach for the job?? I'm pretty confident in Joe C.'s hires, he's done a pretty amazing job so far, so we'll have to see how Capel handles everything.

The girls. Pretty strange game for them. They played at Nebraska and Courtney Paris sat most of the first half on the bench with two fouls. Most of the team had two fouls in the first half. Not to mention all the turnovers we had, we found ourselves trailing going into the locker room. The second half was better, Courtney came in and made an impressive 41st double-double. We came out with the win, so all is good.

Well, the Cowboys just lost the first game of the playoffs. NICE! You have to be freaking kidding me! Romo fumbled the snap on a kick to take the lead. That's not a good end to the day!

Fiesta Bowl Disaster

The Fiesta Bowl was a major letdown! I can't believe I stayed up past midnight and I was sick.

What was worse??? Listening to my boss the next three days at work talk excessively about it. Can't we just forget?? And, he doesn't even like football! But, I failed to mention, he does know EVERYTHING.

Wow, the things I learn from him. Did you know that Bob Stoops never won a bowl game as head coach at OU? When I started to correct him, he cut me off after I mentioned the Independence Bowl (his first bowl game in his first year as head coach). He cut me off before I could continue and said he meant to say he hasn't won any BCS bowl games. Well, that's strange, I wonder when the Orange and Rose bowls stopped being considered BCS games? He didn't like me proving him wrong and walked away.

Then he told me why he thought Bob Stoops and Brent Venables needed to be fired. UGH! Can you please stop TALKING! On and on he went, he bashed Adrian Peterson, Paul Thompson, everyone. This man NEVER watches football NEVER! I think the only reason he watched this game was to torment me!

Like the game wasn't bad enough. The worst part. It was the Oregan game Part II. Ian Johnson fumbled the football in OT. He even admitted it. No one is talking about that! The play was once again reviewed...the angle they looked at was from behind the end zone. The replay official didn't take into account the curvature of the field. The field peaks at the center and the camera angle showed the running back on the other side of the curve. There was no way from that angle that they would have been able to see if his knee was down. What happened to looking at several camera angles.

We can't catch a break this year! Well, at least our Women's Basketball Team is carrying the torch. Erin Higgins is in her 3-point groove again! I can't wait until the tournament.
